Approaches, Method, and Techniques of Teaching
1.
Approach
to Language Teaching
According
to Anthony, “the theories about language learning that serves as the source of
practices and principles in language teaching.” The principles and sources
which is used as a reference named approaches. Therefore the main point of
approach is the principle. For
example, the character of grammatical or structural approach is memorizing.
2.
Language
Teaching Method
A coherent set of links between
actions and thoughts in language teaching. The actions are the techniques, and
the toughts are the principles in language teaching (Diane Larsen – Freeman
[2000]). We can analyze the most important thing in method is set of links between technique and approach.
The methods of teaching;
o
speech,
o
demonstration,
o
discussion,
o
simulation,
o
laboratory,
o
debate, and many more.
The
good team has heterogenes (race, ethnic, gender, religion, culture, etc.)
3.
Techniques
Technique is a systematic procedure
formula, or routine by which a task is accomplished. It refers to the implementation of teaching methods in
specific way. For example; using lecturing method to teach a class which has
many students or using different method of class discussion depending on the
students’ characteristic. In this case, a teacher can use different techniques
to meet the class requirements.
