Introduction of TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language)

Language is a system of arbitrary vocal symbols used for human communication. There are so many languages especially in Indonesia. For example Indonesian itself, Javanese, Madurese, and so on. Now, we are talking about Teaching English as Foreign Language. It is mean that English is not our language that we use in daily life. That is why we called it as a foreign language. Sometimes people around us ever said that English is our second language. But it is the false thing. Why do I say so? Because if you stay in Madura for example, most of you will use Madurese in your daily life. The second language that may be used is Indonesian. Everyone who stay in Indonesia at least has two languages that can be used and may master clearly. So, English in Indonesia as a foreign language.

The function of TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language) is learning how to teach English. Intrinsically everytime you teach your students, you use a method. The function of the method itself is something that you want to give or to teach your students can be delivered and received perfectly by your students. That’s why, there is no best way of the method that you use, but the only one that makes your lecture has high value is the method itself works effectively. It can help your students easier to get the point of your lecture.

The first thing that you must do before you teach your students is getting to know the character of your students. You might differentiate between extroversion, introversion, inhibitition, and or emphaty. Keep in mind that a method sometimes is good for some students, but it cannot be match to another students. Trying to know which method that match with your students is not too easy and it is not difficult as terrible as you imagine.

TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language) help you whom dream is good English teacher to know how to teach effectively. Not only that, but also it can help you which method that you must choose in teaching English in your class. You are someone who will become a real English teacher, automatically you know the capability of your students especially in English. Of course that every class has heterogeneses. There are student with high capability, intermediet, and low capability. How can you teach with the different capabilty of your students in enjoyable situation? Why must enjoyable situation? Because of this matter, your students can get the point and the messages about what you explaining are. The important thing is they get the enjoyment everytime you teach them.

It is the main purpose why you must face all of the matters of this lecture clearly. Usually most of school in Indonesia use the Teacher Centre method. Moreover it is not always a good method. Because of this method always give a good chance for the teacher only to speak up all of the matters in front of the class, to explain the matter, etc.

The position of teacher here is the only one source who can give the good explanation for her/his students. The bad thing of this method is there is no enough time and opportunity to speak up and or to express their feelings, express what they have in their mind. The students only sit, listen, and write down all of the matter that is explained by their teacher. Those are the reasons why the method which is used in most of Indonesian school is not good.

We all do hope by attending this lecture (TEFL) can change the bad habitof the method. We must be an open minded teacher who can teach and share all of things that have relations with the subject that wa are going to teach. There is no impossible thing as long as we want to try in getting what we want.
