Ghaladak Rantai, The inheritance of Colonial Era

Ghaladak Rantai, The inheritance of Colonial Era

Ghaladak Rantai,  bridge chain, located in Marengan village is a historical bridge. This bridge is located in Marengan river, and known as Ophaalburg at the colonial era. This bridge is the only one pulling bridge in Sumenep. Wonder the main material of this bridge is wood and iron, whose length is about 8 meters, and its width is 3 meters, spreads Marengan river out which becomes a trade stripe and the gate of entering Sumenep town from east side.

Because Merengan village has strategic location as a stripe of transportation from Kalianget harbor to Sumenep. On the other hand, the position of this bridge is spreads out the river and head for the south, place of making salt. Perhaps this bridge used to carry out that salt to Kalianget harbor.

Like another bridge in (Surabaya or Batavia) which was built in colonial era, this bridge could be pulled out when the there was ship or boat across the river.
This bridge was renovated by the government becomes a concrete bridge, and looks twice stronger. But, until now people around Marengan village called this bridge as Ghaladak Rantai.
